Apocalypse is an ancient mutant that first appeared in X-Factor in June 1986, and is one of the most powerful enemies of the X-Men. Apocalypse real name is En Sabah Nu from Egypt, and fused with his mutant powers is an alien technology making him invulnerable. Apocalypse was born 5000 years ago has gray skin, and blue lips, and was abandoned because of his appearance. Apocalypse was taken in by a man named Baal of the Sandstormers, and thought how to survive.
Before Apocalypse was created, X-Factor was supposed to use Daredevil and Owl “the villain” in May 1986. However, they changed the character into Apocalypse.
Apocalypse powers were superhuman physical ability, genius-level intellect, teleportation, technopathy, Psionic powers, energy manipulation, molecular manipulation and immortality. Apocalypse was greatly weakened by Nathaniel Essex or Mister Sinister’s created plague that would only attack Apocalypse. His old enemy, centuries ago was Dracula. He was able to defeat him with the help of Abraham Van Helsing. His modern enemies are the X-Men.
Apocalypse team affiliations were Four Horsemen, Mister Sinister, Ozymandians, Alliance of Evil, Clan Akkaba and Dark Riders. He also went to different aliases such as En Sabah Nur, The First One, Genesis, and Various mythological deities.
Apocalypse was the shadowy repatch of the Owl in redrawn pages of X-Factor. He was made to be merciless, the survivor of the fittest, believed to have done the right thing, the perfect next step in the mutant story and ensured the evolution. Apocalypse appeared as a character in many issues such as in X-Men Spinoff series X-Factor, X-Men, X-Cutioner’s Song crossover, Uncanny X-Men, Black Knight: Exodus and Mister Sinister in The Further Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix. Apocalypse’ ultimate goal is to rule the world and have people worship him as a god.
Created by writer Louise Simonson and artist Jackson Guice, Apocalypse first appeared in X-Factor #5 (May 1986).
POWER and ABILITIES
Apocalypse is an ancient mutant who further augmented himself after merging with Celestial technology gaining in the process a variety of superhuman abilities. He is also among the rare subspecies of mutants that possess the additional gift of immortality. He has total control over the molecules of his body which enables him to alter his form as it suits him, such as allowing his body to become extremely malleable and flexible, enhance his physical abilities, transform his limbs into weapons, wings, or jets, regenerate from fatal injuries, generate a wide range of powers at will, and adapt his body to apparently any disease or hostile environment. He can also project and absorb energy and is capable of technopathy, being able to directly interface with the various technologies he has at his disposal.
The being who would later be called Apocalypse was born thousands of years ago in Aqaba. He was born with the mutant X-gene, and possibly the first living being on Earth to express it. Because of his grey skin and blue lips, his people abandoned him as an infant. He was rescued by Baal of the Sandstormers who saw the child’s potential power and will to survive. Baal named him En Sabah Nur, which Marvel translates as “The First One”. The Sandstormers lived by the credo of survival of the fittest, believing that only those who are strong enough to survive hardship and direct conflict are worthy of life.
